Description: Usual library markings and card pouch. Suitable for study and research. Formerly belonged to college library. Cosmetics of cover are poor. Spine is taped. Spine ends are eroded. Edges and corners are worn and frayed. Rear cover hinge is split and detached. Binding is split at first title page, but still held by webbing. Text pages are all intact and generally in good condition, but binding should be considered fragile due to the age and general condition of the book.No marking noted in text. There are some marks in the Contents and a couple of instances of light underlining in the introduction. The book has an introduction by Joel Chandler Harris in which he shares some of his thoughts on the stories and their originators, and makes some comparisons with folklore of other cultures. The illustrations are not credited, but the artists' signatures show that one of them was Frederick Church. There is a variety of styles in the drawings. The Church drawings seem(to me at least) to possess a wild, almost occult, sort of energy. The book is readable with care to support the cover, but could use some taping.
