Description: Nine large French Santons figurines all signed by Simone Jouglas (1907-2001). She was awarded Merit Artisana in France for her Santons in 1952. These are circa 1970. Santons depict the nativity scene with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. Local Santon villagers dressed in clothing styles of the mid-1800’s from Marseille France and three kings from the East bring gifts to the manger. All clothing is original to each Santon and is made from Provencal fabrics of the 1930’s. These handmade Santons are terracotta figures with sculpted faces, body covered in cloth with steel wire joints. Each stands on a signed terracotta base. All are in very good condition. Sold as a group. They are a fine and serene addition to any display at Christmas. Set of 9 Santons plus manger. The Three Wise Men Santons are: Gaspar in a brown cloak carries Frankincense, Melchior wears red and is King of Arabia, he brings gold, Balthasar has black beard, green cloak and brings Myrrh.
