If you have to ask that question, it tells me you are either (1) not a Dodger or Phillies fan, or (2) you are too young to remember the 1950s through the 1970s. Danny Ozark spent over three decades in the Dodger organization, and if it were not for one Gil Hodges, thousands of baseball fans would know about Danny Ozark. Danny Ozark was perhaps the best hitter in the minor leagues I ever saw; he absolutely blistered the ball in the Texas League, and was the favorite player of the Fort Worth Cats, a Dodgers farm club in the Texas League. He had greatness written all over him for 18 seasons in the minor leagues, but the Gilster (Hodges) was in his way to perform for the Dodgers at first base in the bigs. So what did Ozark do? He came to the Major Leagues (the Los Angeles Dodgers) as a coach for Walter Alston, where he faithfully served for eight years, and won a World Series ring in 1965. The Philadelphia Phillies know Danny Ozark as a manager, for Ozark led the Phils to three consecutive National League East Division championships in 1976-1978, but could never get the Phils over the hump into the World Series. (The Big Red Machine, the Reds, and the Dodgers were always in the way.) Ozark did come back to the Dodgers for another World Series championship in 1981 as a coach.
