Description: Original oil painting on canvas by Swiss Modernist painter Otto Wyler (1887-1965). The painting depicts an idylic summer view of trees in a mountain landscape, the entire composition is an ode to the color green. The canvas is signed and dated for 1936 in the lower right, it also bears the artist's name, place, title and original price on the reverse top stretcher. Nice size, the painting measures 15 x 21 3/4 inches and with frame is 19 x 251/2 inches. The framed is very likely original to the piece and I suspect it is artist made, it has a sand texture and was originally white or close to it. Painting is in excellent condition commensurate with age. Otto Wyler (b. 30 March 1887 in Mumpf; d. 18 March 1965 in Aarau) was a Swiss painter, draughtsman and graphic artist. Born to Jewish parents, he grew up in Aarau, Switzerland. Neurodivergent due to childhood brain surgery, he lost his computational faculties, but retained all of his creative abilities. 1904–1906, technical school for decorative painting and drawing at the cantonal industrial museum; 1906/07 painting school of Heinrich Knirr in Munich; 1907–1908 advanced studies in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts with Fernand Cormon, Jacques-Émile Blanche and Charles Cottet. Wyler experimented with the stylisitic innovations of the key avant garde figures, Matisse and Picasso and was influenced by Impressionism, Cubism, Fauvism and Expressionism. He deliberately held no allegiance to any one particular style; it was the art that mattered. He often painted the landscapes which he found inspiring; among his favorites were views of the rugged Swiss Alps as they passed through the seasons of the year. In 2021, the Musem Franz Gersch in Burgdorf Switzerland held a wonderful seventy painting retrospective of Wyler's work titled "The most beautiful pictures: Re-encountering Otto Wyler" below is the address of the virtual tour of the show, well worth viewing: https://mfg.wyler.galerie360.ch/
