Description: ARTIST: Oingo Boingo TITLE: Dead Man's Party LABEL: MCA Records – 670.0138 RECORD GRADING: VG+SLEEVE GRADING: VG+ NOTES: 1988 Brazil original release Oingo Boingo was an American new wave band formed by songwriter Danny Elfman in Los Angeles, California, in 1979. Known for their high-energy performances, eclectic style, and quirky aesthetic, Oingo Boingo developed a cult following and achieved significant success throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. The band's music is characterized by a unique blend of ska, punk rock, funk, and new wave, with Elfman's distinctive voice and theatrical flair at the forefront. Oingo Boingo's early work, including their debut album "Only a Lad" (1981), featured socially and politically charged lyrics wrapped in upbeat and infectious melodies. This was followed by albums such as "Nothing to Fear" (1982) and "Good for Your Soul" (1983), which helped solidify their place in the alternative music scene. In 1985, Oingo Boingo released "Dead Man's Party," one of their most successful albums, featuring hit singles like "Weird Science" and the title track "Dead Man's Party." These songs received heavy rotation on MTV and were included in popular films and TV shows, boosting the band's mainstream visibility. Subsequent albums, including "Boi-ngo" (1987) and "Dark at the End of the Tunnel" (1990), continued to showcase the band's versatility and ability to evolve with changing musical trends. Throughout their career, Oingo Boingo was known for their elaborate live shows, which often included elaborate costumes, props, and energetic stage antics. Despite their success, the band decided to retire in 1995, with a farewell concert on Halloween, marking the end of an era for their dedicated fanbase. After disbanding Oingo Boingo, Danny Elfman went on to achieve fame as a prolific film composer, scoring numerous successful movies, including many collaborations with director Tim Burton. The band's legacy lives on through their enduring music, which continues to be celebrated by fans old and new.
