Description: DON’T FALL FOR BUYING INFERIOR WET WOOD FRESH OFF THE SAWMILL… OUR Olive wood is DRY and ready to use for Woodworkers, DIY Epoxy, Hybrid Resin projects, River tables, Charcuterie Boards, Serving Platters, etc. This Very RARE 200 year-old salvaged Olive wood slab is air dried, milled and thickness planed to a size of: 7/8" x 9" x 16" and ready to be used IMMEDIATELY in your woodworking project, charcuterie board, cutting board, serving board, cheese platter, or whatever you desire. NO need to wait a year or more to dry wet wood! WARNING: WE ONLY SELL DRY READY TO USE LUMBER!!! IF you buy wood from other sellers that don’t specifically state that their wood is DRY… it probably isn’t, and if it’s not DRY than you CAN'T use it for River Tables / Resin work, etc.!!! Resin WILL NOT WORK with WET WOOD! Resin reacts to moisture in the wood and will not adhere well, it well cause bubbles in the resin and you will NOT get the finished product you are probably seeking! BE CAREFUL… if you’re buying from sellers who claim their wood is straight off the sawmill then IT’S STILL WET and YOU’RE MOST LIKELY PAYING TOO MUCH FOR WET WOOD that’s not ready to be used! WET WOOD is MUCH LESS valuable because air drying wood generally takes 1 YEAR per inch of thickness… Olive is a difficult wood to dry and can take EVEN LONGER! and thus adds value due to the time it takes to have good wood ready to use. Or you need to have a KILN to dry it which are expensive and can ruin the natural beauty and color of the wood. Air drying is THE BEST method to retain all the natural color and beauty of the wood! The STORY behind the Olive Board being offered for sale: Salvaged from a fire in 2009 from the hills behind the Historic Mission of Santa Barbara, CA this rare and limited offering of a 200 year old Rustic Live Edge Olive Wood Slab Lumber was milled from trees originally planted in the 1800's. Because of this many of the slabs salvaged from this olive orchard are prized specimens for their size and beautiful grain patterns. After sawing the fire scorched salvaged trees into rough planks, the boards were air-dried for 9 years before being offered here for sale. The grain and figure in the wood from these olive trees is truly spectacular, however please see photos for any checks, cracks, burned or charred areas or other defects which often times add to the beauty and character of the piece, but some woodworkers choose to fill any voids or defects with resin or filler of choice according to their project needs. Please note that the slab for sale has been thickness planed but has not been sanded or worked in any other way and is sold as "Milled Rough Lumber". Slab has been misted with water in the photos to show grain and color. A Further Note about Olive wood: Olive wood is beautiful, but it is one of the hardest woods to process and dry properly! If you are buying it from sellers "straight off the sawmill”, then most likely you will experience warping, cupping, cracking and checking AS THE BOARD DRIES over the next year or more AFTER it is freshly cut! IF you pay a premium for wet wood off the sawmill, it MAY LOOK GREAT NOW, but as OLIVE dries it LOVES to check, crack, warp, twist, etc… Don’t be fooled by sellers trying to take the easy way out and charge inflated prices for inferior wood! OUR woods have already been air dried for years, so they have already experienced all the defects that they are going to have, so what you see from us, IS TRULY what you will be getting!
