Description: Antique Cabinet Card 1890s woman with a hair comb, wearing a lacy dress and fancy pin, photographed by Hugh J. Brady, Orange, New Jersey. Hugh J. Brady was active as a studio photographer from 1881 to 1899. Prior to that time, he traveled in a photographic wagon. He continued operating traveling galleries even after opening his studio. He madetintypes and as photographs on paper. Surface scratching to image. Soiling to card. A spot on the lower left side of the image, in the area not part of the portrait. I believe the bottom edge of the card (but not the photo) has been trimmed. Cream card is heavily decorated with a beautiful engraved design in orange ink, featuring a camera, tripod, drape, easel, brushes and other artist's tools. Aside from the design and the ornate initial logo are the words: " Leading PhotographerBradyCor Mainand Park Sts.OrangeN.J." Card measures about 5.75 x 4 inches. Photo measures 3.875 x 5.625 inches. Subject's image measures about 3.5 x 3 inches. My mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as quickly as I am able. There are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any information my mother may have left with individual photos. Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn't able to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often, but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more information on the internet and in history books, but it's a slow process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and selling process.
