Description: Original large-format fold-out 1873 antique lithographed survey map of part of the northwestern coast of the United States. This map is drawn on a scale of 1:600,000 and covers the area from Tillamook Bay to the boundary between the United States and British Columbia. There is highly detailed coverage of the Tillamook Head area and the coast of Washington from the Columbia River to Cape Flattery and Vancouver Island, with hundreds of place names and triangulation reference points from surveys conducted between 1854 and 1873. Among the named places and features are Puget Sound, Port Discovery, Admirals Inlet, Murderers Cove, Restoration Point, Birch Bay, Fisgard Light, Victoria, Gulf of Georgia, Lawson Reef, Olympia, Fort Nisqually, Westport, Grays Harbor, Royal Bay, Port Madison, Fort Chehalis, Tatoosh Island, and Bellingham Bay. Seattle is not among the named places on the map. The image area measures a very generous 71.7 x 46.2 cm [28¼" x 18¼"], and the map's full title is Sketch K Showing the Progress of the Survey in Section XI (Upper Sheet) From Tillamook Bay to the Boundary from 1851 to 1873. It was prepared under the supervision of Benjamin Peirce in Report of the Superintendent of the United States Coast Survey, Showing the Progress of the Survey during the Year 1872, Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C., 1875. Condition: It is in very good condition, bright and clean, with faint toning on the fold lines and no rips, tears, or writing. It is printed on a lightweight paper, typical of mid-19th century government fold-outs, and it is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. You will want to handle it carefully, as you would any old document. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. This is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. Buy with confidence!
