Description: Sunfish print This is an original Denton Fish print from various volumes of "The State of New York Report of the Forest, Fish and Game Commission" as well as a folio set produced at the same time period, and are well over 100 years old. This is an original print and not a reproduction. Denton illustrated more then 100 fishes for the NY Fish and Game Reports. He was the most prominent artist to illustrate fish and did not sign all his work. Don't be fooled as the colors on the reproductions cannot match the originals. Background: Sherman Denton worked as an artist for the U.S. Fish Commission at the Smithsonian Institute and developed a method of mounting fish that preserved their colors as in life. The State of New York Fisheries, Game and Forest Commission then hired Denton to illustrate their annual reports between 1895 and 1907.
