There are 16 brightly colored double-page maps of countries, continents, and regions, including the Klondike, reflecting the continuing interest in the 1896 gold discovery, and the islands of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Philippines, and Hawaii, following the Spanish-American war in 1898. The maps were engraved by the Matthews-Northrup Company and copyrighted © 1899 by J. Martin Miller, Chicago, Illinois. The text offers an encyclopedic view of the world's people, their religion, cultures, government and commerce, along with information on railroads, canals, telegraph cables, and natural features, with more than 500 photographs of famous individuals and places. Color illustrations give the representative appearances of African Natives, American Indians, and Asiatic and European Races. An 80-page section at the rear contains full-page and double-page color maps of states in the U.S. by George F. Cram, along with population data for states and cities from the census counts in 1890 and 1900. This book has two copyrights: © 1902 by L.G. Stahl and © 1899 by J. Martin Miller. Cartographer and author James Martin Miller (1859-1939) was the original editor and publisher. Condition: It is complete and intact, with all of the inside pages in very good condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears.
