Featuring a carved wood frame bearing original gilding, image depicts a hauntingly beautiful woman in elegant gown, lace blouse & cuffs, as well as several pieces of jewelry. Hand colored in muted tones, she has surprisingly rosy cheeks and a solemn countenance - if not for her high color, I would assume this was a mourning image. Back bears a notation dating it 1936 on the original cardboard and frame was sold by C.L. NEUMAN, New York City. Condition is very nice with no chips, cracks, hairlines, water damage, repairs, etc. - only thing I can find is a bit of "shadowing" when photograph is held at an angle in the light - this is on the inside of the glass - probably a bit of transfer from the color used -- does not detract or show when viewed directly. Just a beautiful, moving image - her gown appears to be turn of the century, so this may be an earlier antique image framed in 1936 - wonderful addition to any collection or display!
