Description: Size: Frame 41.5 x 47 cm, print inside mount 24.5 x 29 cm. Condition: Print in very good condition apart from some creasing and tears to right hand side, overall age toning. Frame good, verre églomisé mount good with some small losses. This charming print is a stipple engraving which is printed in colour. Colour prints of this period are fairly rare and involved inking the plate with the coloured inks, rather than printing in black and applying later hand colour, which was more common. We do not know the artist but from the subject matter consider that the print is most likely French. The frame and original verre églomisé mount are 19th century, the print is probably older, late 18th century. The verre églomisé technique, involving painting and gilding the rear of the glass, was commonly used for pictures in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, before card mounts were used.
