Description: This is an original painting by artist David Mattingly (me). When I do a new book cover, I always submit sketches, somewhere between one and six, to the art director, so they can see what I have in mind for the final cover. They will now choose one sketch for me to take to the final art, or ask for another sketch if they didn’t see anything they liked. This is the second wrap around cover sketch I did for "Explorers in Hell" by Janet Morris. This is a piece of original art, one of a kind, and when it is sold there is no other. The sketch is in gouache paint, a finely ground tempera paint that I used for most of my sketches. The sketch measures 7 inches by 9.5 inches, the same size as the printed paperback book cover.
