Description: Offering this original, framed Currier "In Memory Of" hand-tinted lithograph personally filled out to memorialize a two-month old infant who died in 1848. This print is an early one and not commonly found in this design. At the bottom it says, "Lith & Pub by N. Currier 2 Spruce St. N. Y. This was made prior to Currier's partnership with Ives, when Currier was at this address in NY in the 1840's. The family of three depicted at the cemetery are dressed in the style of the 1840's and show a man, woman, and young boy mourning and contemplating the loss of a young baby of the family who died at 2 months and 3 days. The family name is Schneider, and the monument filled out in German. The first name appears to me to spell "Elfret" but I am not certain, even after looking up the name in German. Perhaps it is "Alfred" but the "d" looks like a crossed lower case "t" to me. In the print, which is a closer view than some other of Currier's, the towering monument features a large urn topped by a flame, which signifies Eternity. Two large Weeping Willows fill much of the picture, and a church is seen in the distance. There is some age toning and light staining and the print retains its original black wooden frame, measuring 14" wide by 19 1/4" tall. The width of the frame itself is 1 3/4" deep. The back still has the original newspaper cover in the German language. At over 175 years old, there is evidence of moisture to the paper backing. The original glass is present and I will package this item very carefully for safe arrival. Please consider my photos as part of the description. I am always happy to help so please message me with any questions you may have. Thank you for taking the time to view my listings and I hope you will consider adding me to your favorite sellers list.
