Description: Lantern is in original untouched condition with varying punch designs on all sides and simple hand braised hinges and locking mechanism. Measurements approximately 11” inches tall and 4 7/8” inches wide. constructed from tin and forged iron pins the horn panels are cracked and missing sections. Late 1600s too mid 1700s. Came from a well known auction house in New York Lot # 0253 A large tin lantern which has been decoratively pierced throughout much of its surface in a variety of patterns. The sides are affixed with three thin horn panels which diffuse the light, as well as a door with a simple swiveling latch. The conical top is surmounted by a ring from which the lantern can be hung.
