Description: Original Vintage "Sleepy Cat" Drawing, signed in pencil. I've done extensive research of the artist and the history of this drawing. In 1933, the artist, Guido Gruenwald, was commissioned by a female friend to draw "Chessie" the kitten sleeping on a pillow. When the drawing was complete, the woman had passed away without ever seeing her commissioned drawing. In my research, a copy of this drawing was sold at auction for $9500. There are 10 brown spots and yellowing from the type of paper used in the 19th century, which was unbleached or treated. Over time, cellulose fibers oxidize and chromophores develop making the paper reflect wavelengths and yellowing becomes apparent. The paper used in the 1900's was not chemically treated as it is today to prevent this affect. Now, Professionally Framed in a black solid wood 17" x 16.5" frame, with acid free gray and black trim matting, museum glass and Hermedically sealed. Wrapped and stored in my climate controlled smoke free home for 53 years. I am having to downsize my collection of fine art due to health reasons and would appreciate serious buyers only. It will be shipped via USPS Priority with additional insurance for the protection of your investment. Please view photos attached before purchase. If additional information or photos are needed, please contact me. Thank you for your interest in this vintage piece and giving Chessie a new home. Jo
