Original Vintage Thriller “The Spiral Staircase“ 1946 Linen-Backed Movie Poster

Description: This vintage original 1946 psychological horror thriller stars Dorothy McGuire, George Brent, Ethel Barrymore, Kent Smith, Rhonda Fleming, Elsa Lanchester, Sara Allgood, and Rhys Williams. Set over the course of one evening, the film follows a mute young woman in an early-20th century Vermont town who is stalked and terrorized in a rural mansion by a serial killer targeting women with disabilities. It is one of the most scary and tension-filled movies from this period. This original, vintage and authentic One Sheet (27" X 41") poster is in very fine condition and is linen-backed with vivid and bright color which display very well. A restored poster with bright color and a clean overall appearance. Restoration has addressed fold wear and pinholes. The thin layer of linen has been trimmed to the border. The restoration was to address the fold and border wear, minute cross-fold separation, and a few interior scuffs and creases. The poster has some tiny marks to the right of Dorothy McGuire’s arm and also is missing a small section of paper in the bottom center border and a tiny little chip in the bottom center of the image that is not very noticeable. There is also evidence of a little tear above that which has been fixed during restoration. The poster does a good job of portraying the thriller aspects of the film. The Spiral Staircase premiered in New York City on February 6, 1946 and went on to become a box-office success. It was met by favorable critical reviews, praised for its cinematography, atmosphere, and suspense. Barrymore earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film. In the years since its release, film scholars have noted The Spiral Staircase for its stylistic mixture of horror and film noir elements, and cited it as a progenitor of the contemporary slasher movies.
