Description: This is an antique lidded biscuit jar made by Ott & Brewer of Trenton, NJ. 1971-1892.It is finished in cobalt blue with brilliant gold accents in the Japanese / Eastlake style.Measures approximately 8" x 8" x 7" with lid on; weighs over two pounds without packaging.There are tiny hairlines inside the opening of the jar, some factory irregularities, crazing, glaze wear, aging, handling, wear. See photos.Ott and Brewer - 1871-1892The company’s first products were cream colored and white granite wares. This jar fits into that category of early wares made for household use. Ott and Brewer employed Isaac Broome, a skilled Parian worker, between 1873 and 1878. Broome’s Cleopatra bust and Baseball vase are among his most famous pieces.In 1882, William Bromley and his sons John and William, Jr., arrived in Trenton from Ireland and worked at Ott and Brewer. They perfected an American Belleek formula that mimicked the Irish formula. The American forms copied Irish shapes and patterns. In addition, Royal Worcester-type designs appeared on the American Belleek bodies.C. Cook and Company bought Ott and Brewer in 1892.
