Description: Up for consideration is a fine Watercolor Painting or Illustration by listed Detroit Artist Joseph L. Kraemer (1872-1938) of the famous Novel White Fang (1906) By Californian Author Jack London. The piece measures 20 inches by 23.75 inches and is signed "Jos. L. Kraemer". This may have been a promotional poster, Magazine Cover, Dust cover, or advertisement. There isn't much illustration work that has come to the market in relation to the "Call of the Wild" or "White Fang" over the years. Likewise Kraemer did not illustrate the first editions of those books. Kraemer worked in Detroit as an illustrator and cartoonist for the Detroit News and was the president of the Scarab Club (1931-35). According to archives He was noted as illustrating a few historical adventure books in the 20's and made contributions to magazines with interior illustrations...this is a real interesting piece. It is really well down. Likewise it is boosted by its association with the literary world of Jack London of California (1876-1916). London was a pseudonym of John Griffith Chaney, (born January 12, 1876, San Francisco, California, U.S.—died November 22, 1916, Glen Ellen, California), American novelist and short-story writer whose best-known works—among them The Call of the Wild (1903) and White Fang (1906)—depict elemental struggles for survival. I have uncovered over 20 Kraemer illustrations in a portfolio from an old collectors estate recently so please keep an eye on my listing as you may be pleasantly surprised at the quality of work and talent that has been hidden away for decades. On a personal note: I can remember reading "Call of the Wild" when I was about 8 or 9 years of age. I couldn't put it down. Then it was on to Jules Verne 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea...then Hemmingway. I can't believe how thrilling it was to read something back then. By the time Grade 6 came I had read all the adventure books in our small school library and I went into I guess hibernation... Mind you I had G.I. Joes Hot wheels, yoyos, hockey cards and was very active in sports but reading was man oh man...a way to escape...If u have any questions concerns or something to share please message me.
