Description: Up for bid is a pair of large English George IV sterling candlesticks by maker John Watson, Sheffield, 1821-22 and 1823-24. The sticks are about 10 ¾ inches tall and the bases are 5 ¾ inches wide. The sockets will fit candles with a 1 1/8 inch base, and there are no bobeches. The bases are weighted with iron. They have an elaborate Regency period pattern. They are both engraved with a crest of a rampany lion holding a sword. They are both marked [I.W] with full Sheffield hallmarks. One has a date letter for 1821-22, and the other for 1823-24. Condition on the sticks is fairly good. The bobeches are missing, and they both have some internal rattles from loose filler, one worse than the other. The felt pads on the bases are worn and discolored, and there are a few minor dings and normal wear from use. A nice pair of Regency candlesticks.
