Description: Circa1980sPairMcGuireRattanandLaced RawhideChairs Estate FindWe offer a pair of rattan and laced rawhide dining room arm chairs crafted by the San Francisco furniture company McGuire. John McGuire (1920-2013) first designed the Laced Rawhide Chair in 1984 inspired by the seats born along the Oregon Trail using woven rawhide with their trademark rattan. Our chairs are variations on the theme incorporating strong curves to the back and matching arcs below the arms and as stretchers along the side. Each chair is marked with the iconic mother of pearl inlaid "M" and the brass "McGuire" brass plate with patent numbers.The chairs measure 25 1/2" in width at the flared arms which are 26" in height. The overall height is 31 1/4" and the overall depth is 23 1/8". The seat height is 15 1/5", 19" in width and 18 1/8" in depth. The front legs are 21 7/8" in width, the back legs are 20 7/8" in width and the front leg to back leg measures 22 1/2" apart.The rattan frame and rawhide bindings are tight and rock solid. As shown in the photographs, the top of the arms show normal wear to the tobacco finish and wear to the varnish on the inside backs. Minor scuffs appropriate with age.As photographed, the set was acquired as a glass topped pedestal table and four chairs with cushions. There are two pairs of chairs available. The cushions will be included as templates for the upholsterer. The glass topped Sheaf of Wheat Pedestal dining table is offered in a separate listing.
