Description: Original antique, Paul Joseph Gabriel (1828-1903). From 1840 until 1843 he was educated at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. This could be an early work, as he is known for adding more color than others at the Hague school. Exert from wiki Bio, "Gabriël's paintings stand out from the 'grey tones' for which the Hague School was famous because of his clear use of color. His work was less an impression of atmosphere than a consequence of the immediate effect of the sunny Dutch landscape. The more he looked at the Dutch landscape, the more color he perceived in it. He described the Dutch countryside as 'colorful, juicy, fat' and said 'Our land is not grey, even when the weather is grey.'" This black chalk picture is layed on a cardboard, probably in the early 1900s. The frame might be original to time, but gesso and wood frame does have a bit of staining, also I took out the cracked glass. There is a whitening to the right side, I have not tried to clean. Super-size to see well and e-questions. Size is , Overall, 20"x14.5", artwork is 16.5"x 11 1/8", or 41.91cm x 28.26cm.
