Plies of poplar and Asian mahogany are hand-selected for their acoustic properties and moisture content. Overlapping scarf-joint seams, which bond better than traditional butt seams, strengthen the shell and eliminate air pockets. A proprietary glue is applied that dries at the same density as the woods, making each 6-ply Pearl EXL bass drum shell resonate as if it's a singly ply.
