American Cyanamid was a company that owned Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, New York, from 1930 until 1994: 1907: Ernst Lederle, a former New York City Health Commissioner, established Lederle Antitoxin Laboratories in Pearl River. 1930: American Cyanamid purchased Lederle Laboratories. 1940s: During World War II, Lederle Laboratories supplied vaccines and blood plasma to the U.S. armed forces. 1994: American Home Products purchased the Pearl River site from American Cyanamid. The Pearl River operation was renamed Wyeth-Ayerst. 1999: Manufacturing at the site ceased. 2002: American Home Products renamed itself Wyeth. 2009: Pfizer Inc. acquired Wyeth's pharmaceutical holdings, including the Pearl River site. 2012: The EPA announced a remediation plan for the site after Hurricane Irene flooded the area and caused chemicals to leak into the Raritan River. 2024: The site's long-term cleanup is ongoing.
