Description: I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare August 29th, 1927 program (playbill) from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the BENNY DAVIS, HARRY AKST, MAURIE RUBENS and J. KEIRN BRENNAN musical revue "ARTISTS and MODELS" at Nixon's Apollo Theatre in Atlantic City, New Jersey. (The production would open November 15th, 1927 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City and run for 151 performances.) ..... The revue starred FLORENCE MOORE, PEGGY JOYCE, JACK PEARL and JACK OSTERMAN and the cast included DOROTHY McNULTY, JACK SQUIRES, JAN OYRA, NITZA VERNILLE, HARRY O'NEAL, CATHERINE GALLIMORE, WILFRED SEAGRAM, MANILLA POWERS, NAYAN PEARCE, WALTER JOHNSON, MARGIE EVANS, CHAUNCEY PARSONS, LUCILLE ARNOLD, SUE BAXTER, BEN DOVA, DORIS RIBERA, WILLIAM DAVIS, MAX STAMM, FRANKIE MORRIS, VERONICA, GLADYS WHEATON, MOON CARROLL, MARIETTA O'BRIEN, CHARLES COLLES, SYLVIA CAROL, the GACHREY BROTHERS and HAROLD LEONARD and his Waldorf-Astoria Orchestra ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "The Chair Bottom Dance", "Chinchilla", "Clowns", "Do That Thing", "The Mirror Finale", "Oh, Peggy", "One Two Three Four", "The Organ", "Snap Out of It" and "The Voice of the World" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of moderate creasing, light soiling, a few tiny edge tears and minor edge wear, this rare program is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
