Description: This beautiful Pendleton Woolen Mills Blanket is up for sale which was produced to commemorate the grand opening of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian on September 21st, 2004. This is the Member's version of the blanket which was produced in a limited edition of 1,000. The blanket up for sale was hand numbered but very hard to read, due to age. It features a patch with the reproduced signatures of NMAI Director Rick West and blanket artist Truman Lowe. The blanket is 100% pure virgin Wool with a cotton warp, trimmed in black felt. It measures 64" x 80". This blanket has all original tags. The design is titled Sauninga, which means "The Shining One". Ho-Chunk artist and NMAI curator of contemporary art, Truman Lowe, designed this extraordinary collectors' quality blanket to honor his mother, Sauninga, who belonged to the tribe's Bear Clan. Her traditional ribbon work was inspiration for the design. NOTE: The blanket does have a few small flaws, please see the photos. I have tried to make note of all of them.
