Description: WANT IT NOW? WHY WAIT?? BUY IT NOW!!! LIMITED TIME SPECIAL!! NEW LOW PRICE WAS $49.99 NOW ONLY $39.99 THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN MY AUCTION! THIS AUCTION IS FOR 50 - 55 YEAR OLD PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD STAMPED 1966 SLAYMAKER LOGOLANC. PA.USA PADLOCK "P.R.R."PENNSYLVANIA RAILROADRUSTFREEUNLOCKED The Pennsylvania Railroad (reporting mark PRR, legal name The Pennsylvania Railroad Company, also known as the "Pennsy") was an American Class I railroad that was established in 1846 and was headquartered in Philadelphia. Named for the commonwealth it was established in, by 1882, the Pennsylvania Railroad had become the largest railroad (by traffic and revenue), the largest transportation enterprise, and the largest corporation in the world. Its budget was second only to the U.S. government. Over the years, it acquired, merged with or owned part of at least 800 other rail lines and companies. In 1968, the Pennsylvania Railroad merged with its rival New York Central Railroad and the railroad eventually went by the name of Penn Central Transportation Company, or "Penn Central" for short. The former competitors’ networks integrated poorly with each other, and the railroad filed for bankruptcy within two years. Bankruptcy continued and on April 1, 1976, the railroad gave up its railroad assets, along with the assets of several other failing northeastern railroads, to a new railroad named Consolidated Rail Corporation, or Conrail for short. STAMPED "P.R.R."PENNSYLVANIA, RAILROAD The Slaymaker Lock Company, originally Slaymaker, Barry and Company, was founded in 1888 by Samuel R. Slaymaker and John F. Barry of Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Samuel Slaymaker had become interested in switch and signal locks while working for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a civil engineer. In 1894 the company was reorganized and renamed the Slaymaker–Barry Company with Samuel Slaymaker as the principal stockholder, and John Barry and William F. Troast as junior partners. The company’s first locks filled the demand by the United States Government and various railroad companies for inexpensive locks. In 1921 W.E. Fraim bought the controlling interest in the company and once again the name changed to the Fraim-Slaymaker Hardware Co. (marked as FS HDW CO INC, LANC. PA. on the locks). He took away from the E.T. Fraim lock company the business they had with the Pennsylvania Railroad. At the time the Pennsylvania Railroad was the largest railroad in the country and the Fraim-Slaymaker Hardware Co. getting their business was a real coup. In 1930 S.R. Slaymaker bought back control of the company and changed the name back to the Slaymaker Lock Co. They were known for selling locks to railroads across the country. In 1973 the Slaymaker Lock Company was sold to the American Home Products Corporation and made part of Ekco Housewares Division. In the 1980s the lock company suffered because the market had been flooded with cheap padlocks and the Slaymaker Lock Company was losing money. By 1986 the company officially decided to cash out and the company closed its doors at the manufacturing plant. STAMPED "1966" This model lock dates to 1966+. It is stamped steel construction with a steel shackle. It has exposed rivet heads that would disappear in later models. This lock was most likely a switch lock. One which secures the throw arm of a hand operated switch. This type was also used to secure way-side call boxes, signal controls, interlocking maintenance buildings, storage sheds and supply lockers among other uses. This lock is currently obsolete. (Ebay note: railroad locks without the keyys are allowed on the site) Condition: This lock is about 50 - 55 years old. The lock is in excellent condition for its age. The dust cover still has spring to it. I see no evidence of rust on it. The only blemish, no keyy. The lock would most likely function as intended if a proper keyy was used. Mechanical device disclaimer: Every mechanical device has a certain life span. The day it leaves the factory, it becomes one day closer to its end date. When I find these devices, I plug them in, wind them up or put in a battery. If they buzz, whirr or seem like they're doing what they are supposed to be doing, I keep them for auction. At that point in time, I have NO IDEA of how old or how much use they have incurred. They may last a lifetime or fail the next time they are turned on. Therefore, I sell these as "Decorative or Ornamental purposes" only, not functional. Which may be referred to as "AS IS". Note: On some items, UPC symbols may have been removed for rebate purposes. International Buyers – Please Note: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. Other information a seller may wish to include: These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as "gifts" - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.
