Description: "The Tasty" was a hole-in-the-wall short-order restaurant right in Harvard Square. Residents of Harvard's undergraduate "houses" (dorms is not the right word) were a very short walk away from it and crowded in for coffee, donuts and The Tasty's famous hamburgers. It closed for good in 1997, to the sorrow of many Harvard students and alumni. Any Harvard grad who once frequented The Tasty should be thrilled to get this never-used, one-of-a-kind gift. I have proudly displayed it in my memorabilia cabinet since 1996, when I bought it. This cup is one of the old-fashioned kind that used to be found in diners and coffee shops -- with thick china, a shiny finish, and because of its heavy bottom, very resistant to being knocked over. According to an online encycopedia, a Harvard Business School student once calculated that The Tasty was "the most profitable restaurant in New England per square foot", at 210 sq ft (20 m2). The Tasty had 14 stools. On busy nights it would be crammed with around 70 people (from actual head counts) at a time. On these nights between 300 and 400 burgers were served between the hours of midnight and 4:00 AM.
