The inscription reads “These volumes are dedicated to the American soldier and sailor…., New York, May 23rd 1885.” This special edition printing features engraved black and white illustrations, fold out facsimile letters written by Grant, and forty-three maps. Any antique book may have bowing in the spine, loose bindings, separations, missing or loose pages, discoloration of the covers and pages, marks of previous owners in inner first pages, edge wear consistent with age, and foxing but are in reading condition.
