Story: I went on a Peter Max invitation tour of his personal studio in NY where I had the pleasure of meeting Peter himself: sit and have a conversation with him in German and in doing so acquiesced this piece on his advice and the story behind it. I told him this was the only piece that really got my attention. He then told me the story of how a taxi driver in NY asked him if he was that famous artist - Warhol...he said yes and out came this rendition of Peter as Andy Warhol w a Mustache. It was part of his private collection in the studio where he paints. He himself said it was one of his favorites of himself as "Warhol"- especially the color palette that evolved out it. The movement he talks about - how each painting starts out with a color palette and becomes a unique piece - even though replicated version: here he told me he started with the rainbow of colors and then built on that and drew in those colors into the face and eyes - There are many "Warhol" he has done, he said but for him this was one of his favorites. Mine too, but sadly I am moving abroad and need to downsize everything. Rather see this in a museum or a collector's wall than a storage unit. First, You buy Art because you love it. Second, You buy Art for its Provenance- the "Story" around the piece and how it evolved. Third, You buy Art for its value...in this case it is priceless.... Finally: You hang it on your wall to enjoy each day !!! I love this piece - it will be hard to let it go, but I am moving onward.... Good luck and fortune of whoever gets this piece.
