Description: Photograph Notes: Upper Upham House was built in 1599 and has been much altered and expanded since. ://flickr/photos/swindonlocal/3811286735/ "When Henry VIII privatised the monasteries in the 16th century, John Goddard acquired the old timber house and his son Thomas remodelled it, encasing the walls with flint and ragstone. His son Richard continued the work. The initials of Thomas and his wife Anne Gifford are on the central gable and those of Richard and his wife Elizabeth Walrond on the south porch. There are some fine chimneypieces. In 1641 this branch of the Goddard family died out and the house fell into decay. For a time in the 19th century only two rooms were occupied, by a shepherd. In 1909 it was bought by Hilda Hanbury, later Lady Currie, and was remodelled and rebuilt by the architect Biddulph Pinchard. It was described in Country Life in 1922. In 1967 it was divided into two. Its gatehouse, also by Pinchard, and the building known as the Chapel and Eyres barn are now houses." ://aldbourne.info/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1890&sid=e95e6f28a6a9e72c535954f48dd1ebfb Product Description: You will be buying a Photograph produced using professional photographic lab equipment and printed on high quality photographic paper.
