Description: A SERIES OF TWELVE BOOKS, ALL WITH A PREFACE BY TED SENNETT. This is a complete set of first editions. The series includes eleven books on specific movie stars and a twelfth book on Gangsters in the Movies that is terribly out of place. My guess is that Ted Sennett owed the author a favor. All are copyrighted 1973. Eight books are slightly taller than the other four with different colored boards and clearly a slightly better quality. JACKETS:ALL JACKETS ARE CONSIDERED VERY GOOD WITH SURFACE RUBBING AND LOSS OF COLOR, AND SOME EDGE WEAR, MOSTLY ON SPINE EDGES. JACKETS HAVE LIGHT SOILING AND AGE RELATED PAPER TONING. SOME JACKETS HAVE NICKS OR HANDLING CREASES. BOOKS: THE BOOKS RANGE FROM GOOD TO VERY GOOD BUT THESE WERE NOT TOP SHELF QUALITY WHEN RELEASED. EIGHT OF THE TWELVE ARE SLIGHTLY TALLER THAN THE OTHER FOUR AND THE FOUR SHORTER BOOKS HAVE IDENTICAL MAUVE COLORED BOARDS THAT SOMEHOW MANAGED TO FADE SIGNIFICANTLY EVEN THROUGH THE DUST JACKET. THERE IS A SLANT TO SEVERAL SPINES DUE TO THE WAY THESE WERE STORED AND SEVERAL HAVE A HINT OF AN ERASED PENCIL MARK ON THE UPPER CORNER OF FRONT PAGE. THERE IS NO EXISTING WRITING, NO TEARS AND NO CREASES. THE CARY GRANT BOOK IS A WHOLE STORY IN ITSELF SO PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BELOW. (PHOTO 3) shows the four shorter books on left and eight taller books on right. Barbour (PHOTO 5)3- MARLON BRANDO by Rene Jordan- (PHOTO 6 & 7) Front paste down shows significant discoloration4- KATHARINE HEPBURN by Alvin H. Marill- (PHOTO 8 & 9)- (PHOTO 9) shows and example of a slanted spine5- JAMES CAGNEY by Andrew Bergman (PHOTO 10)6- INGRID BERGMAN by Curtis F. Brown (PHOTO 11)7- MARILYN MONROE by Joan Mellen (PHOTO 12)8- CLARK GABLE by Rene Jordan (PHOTO 13-16) (PHOTO 14) also shows a spine slant. (PHOTO 15 & 16) show a typical title page and copyright page BOOKS 9-12: These four books are shorter and all have the same mauve boards, ALL of which faded significantly and reflect overall cheaper workmanship. These four books also have a full list of the "other" books in the series (PHOTO 2). That means that each listed eleven "other books" while not listing the book on whose jacket the list is printed. That means that (PHOTO 17, 18, 20, 22) all show the full list minus the book that the particular jacket is attached to. 9- ELIZABETH TAYLOR by Foster Hirsch (PHOTO 17)10- SPENCER TRACY by Romano Tozzi (PHOTO 18 & 19) (PHOTO 19) shows an example of the fading of the boards. 11- GANGSTERS FROM LITTLE CAESAR TO THE GODFATHER by John Gabree (PHOTO 20 & 21) (PHOTO 21) again shows the fading of the spine and boards12- CARY GRANT by Jerry Vermilye (PHOTO 22 & 23). I don't know what happened here but the book clearly made it out of production without end papers (PHOTO 23). Even the paste downs are "wrong" as they are of a different paper and seem to be an afterthought. In a typical book, the paste down and end paper are a single sheet of paper, one in front and one in rear. In this book, the two paste downs are a single sheet of paper that runs behind the text block in spine. Because of the lack of end papers, the half title page has toning (PHOTO 24) is an example of an erased pencil price on a front end paper. I don't know which book it came from. PLEASE USE ZOOM FUNCTION ON ALL PHOTOS AS THEY ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. This is an attempt to prevent any USPS employee from opening the package for inspection as it would be time consuming for them to repackage it. This is done simply because my packaging is done more carefully than their repackaging and also to protect the book from the elements. The vinyl bag covers cardboard protection and you can simply cut the bag open (carefully) and remove the contents. The cardboard protection is also typically held with tape and cutting in the obvious places will allow the cardboard to pop right open, exposing the book (in another protective vinyl bag). Using this method, you should be able to open any book I send in under a minute. No "buzz saw" is required. Thank you
