Description: First three images show details of a pair of larger flowering plants. Last two images show young offsets pushing new leaves that are offered for sale, recently transplanted to NZ sphagnum in 3"/7.5 cm pots. First offering of what is likely a new species/subspecies of Mexican butterwort closely allied to Pinguicula olmeca, currently considered a narrow endemic from Tabasco State and described in 2018 (Burelo-Ramos et. al.) from the Huimanguillo Muncipality, along the state border with northwestern Chiapas. Key distinctions between this plant and P. olmeca from the type locality at Huamanguilla include somewhat larger summer and fall rosettes in this one (overall max. diameter to ~8"/20 cm in cultivation), dark magenta versus violet colored corollas, and glandular pubescent versus glabrous calyces in the latter species. They are either conspecific or a sibling species. Large and extremely showy flowers to 2"/5 cm across. Plants offered for sale are a mix of offsets taken from those grown from artificially propagated seed together with multiple generation vegetative propagations of several founder clones I was gifted in 2019. Requires light shade to preserve intense corolla color or will fade a bit after opening. Mineral substrate with a touch of gypsum preferred substrate once acclimated to buyers' conditions. Like P. olmeca, this species does not develop true dormant rosettes like other Mesoamerican butterworts but overall emergent leaf size will decrease in winter and early spring when watering frequency should be reduced. Of easy culture but not recommended for novice CP growers. Note: While there have been over half a dozen new and notable species of Mexican butterworts described since 2018, no additional new species have been reported from the Gulf drainage of Tabasco and Chiapas States. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Shipping: Plants will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail with tracking number for physical addresses within three working days of receipt of payment, weather permitting. 72 hour heat packs are available for an additional nominal charge. Wherever possible, plants will be shipped in plastic pots. If bare-rooting is required for shipment to your state, please advise when auction is completed. Discounts on mailing charges available for multiple plant purchases. Delays: plants may be held for shipment if extreme weather conditions (involving sustained sub 40 degree F or 98+ F temperatures) are forecast for destination and buyer will be notified of this decision. Paid-for purchased material will be greenhoused on my end me until a window of mild weather is forecast. Should the buyer insist on prompt shipment, in writing, when a severe weather warning is in effect, the live arrival guarantee is void. Payment is expected within 48 hours of receipt of invoice and invoice will be sent shortly after auction close. No International Sales. No local pickup. Live arrival guarantee. Photographic evidence of damage or loss in transit must be provided within 24 hours of arrival to receive same species replacement material or refund.
