Description: The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad operated between 1875-1993 and was nick-named "The Little Giant". It ran between Pittsburgh PA and Youngtown OH and to Connellsville PA. It was considered a specialty line that hauled primarily the industrial cargo like coke, coal, Iron ore, limestone and steel. Time books such as these were used to chronicle the activities, hours and pay of the railroad workers. This booklet specifically relates to the railroad Carpenters during the period of Sept. 1909. The carpenters appear to have spent a number of hours performing various work on bridges as well as tightening rods, sanding and building fences and more. Pay appears to vary among workers from 6 cents an hour to up to 37 cents an hour. This little piece of railroad history has survived 112 years and is in yellowed, but nice condition. Perfectly legible. A wonderful piece of railroad memorabilia for the railroad/carpenter/PA person in your life, or add to your own collection.
