Description: British Parliament 1925 Vintage Lithograph Portrait of Italian Poet Torquato TASSO from Death Model - 1811 Engraved Print from Torquato Tasso's Jerusalem Delivered While showing its age & handling wear, this rarely offered engraved print has fantastic detail and history (priced accordingly) --Offered here is one of several fantastic engravings from a collection I recently acquired. This engravings is from an 1811 London printing of John Hoole's English translation of Torquato Tasso’s Jerusalem Delivered – An Heroic Poem, published by T. Hood & Co. The engraving was performed by Anker Smith from art work by Ellis Cornelia Knight of a model taken after Tasso's death. Tasso was an Italian poet, born at Sorrento near Naples in 1544; died at Rome, in 1595; son of Bernardo Tasso, who was also an author and of noble family.Anker Smith (1759–1819) was an English line engraver. Ellis Cornelia Knight (1757-1837) was an English gentlewoman, traveler, landscape artist, and writer of novels, verse, journals, and history. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
