Typically Polaris will have codes on the engine cases and crankshaft that will directly correlate with a color bearing that Polaris recommends using. Sometimes those tolerances will be too tight or loose, causing premature bearing failure. Rev6 addresses these bearing issues with plastigauge to find the correct bearing tolerances to ensure there are no premature failures on your new engine. Specially on aftermarket engines running Carrillo rods that require a plastigauge for optimal fitment. Why do we only use Nikasil coating on all of our cylinders?Nikasil-silicon-carbide is one of the most effective and toughest setups you can offer. Nikasil cylinders offer tighter piston to cylinder wall tolerances for better performance, better heat dissipation, and are stronger than your standard cast iron bore. Common issues with the RZR, Ranger, Sportsman 800 Engines One of the most infamous issues with these engines would be the oil regulator dowel. They are known in the UTV community for these issues. Sticking a dowel and causing excessive oil pressure, which then causes it to blow the O-ring on the oil filter and leaks all the oil out. This can also cause low oil pressure and will create premature wear in the engine and knock out bearings, lifters, cams etc.. We do a small modification to address this issue to help reduce these dowels from sticking,along with keeping your oil clean to prevent sludge from disrupting the dowels movement and keeping your oil pressure properly regulated. Improper bearing tolerancesMany of these engines will throw a rod or spin a bearing without any notice whatsoever. A journal that is too tight will preload the bearing, which will increase internal friction and temperature and lead to premature bearing failure. One of the most common issues we find with these machines is a dusted engine. Engines with improper or faulty air intake systems can ingest dust. Dust will act like sandpaper and wear all internal components. This will cause power loss, excessive oil consumption, among other things. Another common issue with these engines is the camshafts. These 700-800cc Polaris engines are unlike any other engine, they run flat tappet hydraulic lifters and pushrods. These are a great setup as long as they are broken in properly. Improper break in procedure will cause a short life span on these engines. The cam lobes can go flat in just under a few hours of riding. Oils can also be another factor with these flat tappet engines, specifically during the break in process. We recommend for the first 25 hours to run an oil that is high in zinc and phosphorus (ZDDP). Break in procedure will last for 25 hours with no excessive idling and varied throttle speeds. We send all of our camshafts out to have them nitrated. With this custom heat treating we can offer a stronger, better camshaft with a special Teflon (moly) coating to ensure no premature camshaft wear. All engines are pressure tested and decked to ensure exact OE specifications before we move forward with the testing process. All bearing journals are inspected for fitment. All orifices are cleaned and pressurized checking for any obstructions. All valves and valve seats are cut for precise fitment. All flat cylinder, head, case halves are checked using a machined surface within .02 millionth of an inch, to ensure all sealing services are within specifications We have partnered with some of the best companies in the business and use only the highest quality parts to rebuild your engine. Once engines are received they are fully dissembled, cleaned, and fully inspected. We inspect everything, crankshaft bearings, rods, true, and index. Engine cases are fully inspected for damage cracks or excessive wear in bearing journals. Cylinders are checked for pitting, scarring, and cylinder wear to see if it's out of round or tapering.
