Chemical formula is SiO2 (Silicone Dioxide) also known as silica. Most people know it as sand found on beaches or there childrens sand box. It is also the main mineral ingredient to make glass. Agate usually forms in what are called nodules and are found all over the world. Brazil and Urugauy have some of the largest agate deposits of fortification nodular agate. Fortification gives reference to the sequential banding patterns like a military fort that make them so popular.
