Description: Yale University Press, November 1913. First printing, 283p., copyright page indicates a limited edition of 2000 copies. This is an association copy signed by noted historian Arthur Schlesinger (signature only) on the front end paper. Book has blue cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on spine, has gilt top page edges which remain shiny, and is protected with a clear acetate dust jacket. Hardcover book (with boards and spine as shown in photo) is in very-good condition with a very-good acetate dust jacket. Book has light to moderate bumping at the top and bottom of the spine (with minimal fraying at top spine) and light wear at the corners of the boards. The boards otherwise remain clean and unblemished. Book has a 1.25-inch tear perpendicular to the side of the last page, and a quarter-inch minor blemish on the spine. Acetate jacket has moderate bumping at the top and bottom of the spine and moderate rubbing on the front and back jacket panels.
