Description: General view of Public Gardens, Boston MA Early 1941 color post card I bought a collection of post cards at an auction. Most of them were used. I like used cards much better because you get a date and even an old stamp. This card was used and does have a one cent stamp on it. It is in full color and does have a white border around it. The front is excellent. There is a post office mark on the back with the date of 1941. The card looks like linen. The first postcard in the United States was created in 1893 to advertise the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Shortly thereafter the United States government, via the United States Post Office Department, allowed printers to publish a 1-cent postcard (the "Penny Postcard"). A correspondent's writing was allowed only on the front side of these cards. The "white border" era, named for obvious reasons, lasted from about 1916 to 1930. I have this card in a protective sleeve. Most of my post cards will be grabbed up by collectors because I'm sure many of them are rare. I have lots more cards in my eBay store. Most of them are Maine. I have thousands that I have not had time to list yet so if you are looking for something in particular, feel free to write me and I will check it out. I have them all separated into envelopes by states. I do not collect post cards so eventually, will have them all for sale.
