Up for sale is an original J & D Tool Co made USGI Korean War era M5A1 marked (M5-1) bayonet and matching USGI M8A1 scabbard. Price is for the one bayonet and scabbard pictured. Bayonet has some preservative cosmoline on it from long term military storage. Bayonet is functional with no cracks in grips. The Department of the Army acceptance stamp (DAS) is stamped on the right side of the guard. J & D Tool Co., Stamford, Connecticut produced the M5 bayonet over two contracts: DA-19-058-ORD-7889 in December 1954 and DA-11-199-ORD-2 in 1956. In 1956, J & D Tool began making M5 bayonets but half way through switched to the M5A1, which they marked “M5-1.” The 1956 contract began as M5 bayonets, but production changed to the M5A1 mid-contract. Thus, this bayonet came from the latter half of the 1956 contract run. Rare to find nowadays as not many were made by J & D Tool compared to MILPAR and Imperial.
