Description: You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE set of Pre-war 1920s German Carl Zeiss Starmorbi 12x60 / 20x60 / 40x60 Binoculars! Though made for civilian use, some examples of this binocular were acquired by the Kriegsmarine, due to their superior optics. The Carl Zeiss Starmorbi is an incredibly rare, exquisitely designed set of big eye binoculars which evolved from a remarkable telescope known as the Starmore, designed by Carl Zeiss in 1910. The Starmore telescope’s groundbreaking design featured a unique rotating eye-piece which allowed the user to shift effortlessly between different levels of magnification. The dawn of the 20th century brought significant advancements in binocular technology, particularly for military applications, and it was during this time that the Starmore telescope evolved into the Starmorbi. With magnification strengths of 12x, 20x, and 40x and ease of adjustment for the user, the Starmorbi was perfect for observing, even in low-light conditions. The Starmorbi, with its exquisite design and excellent optics enjoyed tremendous commercial success, forever left its mark on the world of optics, and remains a testament to the ingenuity and innovation of its time. They have a rotating turret for 12x, 20x, and 40x magnifications, with 60mm objective lenses. The produced a VERY bright view, even during twilight hours and feature retractable sign visors. Due to the superiority of these optics, period photos also depict these in use throughout WW2 by the German Wehrmacht. These originally sold for a HEFTY price tag of $2000.00 in 1924, which equates to around $25000.00 in today's market. Made of a solid brass, aluminum, and steel by Carl Zeiss, Jena, this set of binoculars is in EXCELLENT used condition and retain MUCH of the original paint and finish! The focus adjustments still function PERFECTLY, and all original eye cups are present! Some paint chips and marks as you can see in the photos...as well as some scratches. The front objectives are slightly recessed, with expendable sun shields. The oculars rotate inward and outward slightly, so the user can adjust for eye spacing...however they are a bit loose (the central bar would need to be tightened). The optics are still INCREDIBLY CLEAR, with NO spotting or dust particles - HOWEVER - these were mishandled in transit by USPS, and as a result, one of the internal prisms is chipped internally. See photo. It is fixable and is not noticeable when looking through. This can be repaired, and I can direct the winning bidder to a company that will be able to rectify. As these retail as low as $10,000.00 to as high as $75000.00, the asking price is set accordingly. I have shown similar binoculars in use by the German Military in WW2 in the remaining photos. Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
