Description: Presidential appointment document for a Marine Corp Commission signed by William H Taft as President on vellum, dated April 13, 1911. Signed in brown / tan ink as Wm H. Taft, and also signed by George von Lengerke Meyer as Secretary of the Navy appointing Henry W. Carpenter, to the rank of major in the Marine Corps. The engraving manuscript and vignettes on the document are dark and bold. However, the presidential signature is light in golden tan color ink, faded over time due the type of ink used at the time.
