PREWAR 78 rpm BLUE NOTE 6 Sidney Bechet - Gershwin's SUMMERTIME 1939 E

Description: CONDITION: EXCELLENT, this is the first repress from 1940 of the 1939 issue on 12" shellac of BLUE NOTE 6 from the label's NYC location at 10 West 47th St., featuring a tour de force performance of Gershwin's "SUMMERTIME" by SIDNEY BECHET and the band which many believe was driven by a very real emotional response to the sudden death of trumpeter Tommy Ladnier, just the day before this June 8th, 1939 recording session -- and what is certainly one of the reference recordings of Summertime -- these sides proved very popular selling something like 30 copies a day at the Commodore record store -- on the flip side is a band derivative of the PORT OF HARLEM JAZZ MEN including Bechet with Meade Lux Lewis replacing Albert Ammons on "POUNDING HEART BLUES" this is a 12" 78 rpm record -- please see photos for overall condition -- appears rarely played with only a few cosmetic flaws. Will be securely packed in new 14x14x4 box with cardboard stiffeners and floating in a paper fill. Combined shipping offered. Thanks for looking!
