Released in 1980, the A-7 retailed for $600, that's over $2,100 today!The Pioneer A-7 boasts Pioneer's unique control and display layout and ample low-distortion power for all your needs. A low noise preamplifier circuitry gives superior transient characteristics while maintaining excellent signal-to-noise ratio. The phono equalizer especially boasts a high-gain ICL design that allows for both MM or MC cartridges with a remarkable S/N Ratio of up to 88dB! Then the non-switching, DC Servo power amps pump out 140 Watts, or 70 W/Ch into 8Ω through full spectrum with both channels fully driven, all with a remarkable Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of only 0.007%, far below what the human ear can detect! Remember, these are what audiophiles call "Vintage Watts," from an era where, unlike today, it was a sin to manipulate or elaborate the power ratings!The front panel has a 1/4" Headphone jack, Rec Out Selector, Volume, Balance, Bass & Treble controls and buttons for Inputs & Tape Monitors, Speakers, Line/Straight, MM/MC, Stereo/Mono, Subsonic Filter, and a Loudness button that contours the sound dynamics perfectly for low level listening. The rear panel has two speaker zones, stereo inputs for Tuner & Aux, two Tape Loops, and a stereo Phono input with grounding post for your turntable. It also has three AC outlets, one switched and two unswitched.The A-7 weighs just under 27 lbs and measures 16-9/16 x 5-3/16 x 16-11/16 inches (WHD). Condition:This rare amp is in "Good" condition with signs of use and a few cosmetic issues. Aside from some scratches to the lid, there is some soiling to some of the buttons and some front panel scuffs & dings, some hard to make out in the pics. As is common with this model, the front door has gone missing. Of course it does not affect operation, still we have reduced the price to compensate so YOU SAVE! All the original knobs are present and complete as are the feet and attached AC cord.The manual has gone missing, but no worries, it's available online or we will send you the PDF file directly on request. Service:On inspection this unit was working, just some scratchy or inconsistent controls, so it went to our tech for service. All switches & pots were cleaned internally with Specialist Contact Cleaner (proven superior to DeoxIT by our customers), while those with special needs receive the less aggressive DeoxIT F-5. While open, all electrolytic caps were inspected for bulging or leakage and all PC boards were inspected with all questionable solder joints re-flowed. It's this kind of preventative servicing that makes it smart to buy from a company with an experienced, in-house technician.Testing:We set this up on our test bench and it passed with flying colors! It powered right up, pumping out a clear, distortion-free audio from both channels with no hum or buzz! All indicators and controls were confirmed operational with no noise and all inputs and outputs have been confirmed working.
