However, if you’re running something unique, or are looking to craft a custom solution for your race car a roll cage tubing notcher is a must have tool for your shop. Without a tube notcher tool you will be eyeballing your cuts and angles using a grinder or other cutting tool that will not be as precise as a tube notcher. While a tube coping tool is a step up, using tube notcher is a huge time saver. A roll cage tubing notcher is but one of several roll cage building tools you will need to build your custom roll bar or cage. All Steel and Aluminum Construction for Years of Trouble Free Use Our pipe notcher tool starts with strong 1/4-inch water jet and press bent hot rolled steel plate for its main mounting surface. We use the same strong 1/4-inch steel plate material for the adjustable angle joint plate and the tool free tubing clamp assembly. A 3/4-inch mandrel rides in bronze bushings seated in an oversized 2 inch by 3 inch aluminum mandrel support. The protractor scale is graduated from 0- to 55-degrees of pipe angle. This is not the angle of your cut, but the angle of the pipe layout. For example, if you’re adding door bars to your basic 4-point roll bar and the door bar angle is 32 degrees, once you have set your door bar into the joint plate’s clamp you would move the joint plate to indicate 32 degrees on the protractor scale for your cut. Installation Tips Due to package size constraints, it may be necessary to rotate the tubing clamp fixture 180-degrees into the proper position in order to place the T-handle against the flat surface of the fixture and the round portion of the tube clamp into position over the V-bracket before first use. Please see product photos and overview video for proper bracket positioning. When cutting tubing it is critical to maintain lubricant on the cutting teeth of the hole saw and the bronze bushing supporting the mandrel. Do not use basic spray can lubricants for the mandrel bushing. A good break in oil or oil supplement like camshaft break in or zinc oil additive is a great choice to minimize wear on the bronze bushing. For the hole saw teeth general cutting oil or other basic lubricant is sufficient to keep the teeth and work piece cool. It is a good idea when tightening down the angle adjustment plate to prepare for a cut that you tighten both the pivot bolt and adjustment bolt for the most accurate and stable cutting. A 1/2-inch drill is required for turning the mandrel. A battery powered drill will suffice for small projects, but for extended use a corded power drill is highly suggested.
