Description: I put this guitar together two or three decades ago. It was born out of a desire to have a comfortable, contoured, lightweight body, but with a couple butt-kicking humbucker pickups, for that fat sound.Nowadays, you can find that combination just about anywhere, but back then, you had to build it.In the late ‘90s I took a Fender Squier Strat body and re-routed its three-single-coil cavities to make two humbucker pickup cavities. Then I hand-made a custom 4-ply pickguard (because you had to build those yourself too, back then). Then I stripped the old paint down to the primer and re-did the finish with black nitro. Then I mounted genuine Gibson 490R/498T humbucker pickups, plus new pots, and gold metal knobs, bridge, jack plate, and pickup rings, just for looks. Later, I changed the neck to the one you see here, which came from a Mexican Strat. The tuners are stock to the Mexican neck. The serial number on that neck does not include the body of the guitar, just the neck. I also added a second string T to the headstock, to get a better string angle across the nut.The guitar is wired with one volume, one tone, and one three-way pickup toggle. Now, the thing screams, if you want it to, and you can hang it on your neck all night without it feeling like a cinderblock.I also installed a battery box on the back of the body to power some piezo bridge saddles, which I have since taken out. And there’s a hole near the other controls where I had a mini-toggle for actuating the piezos. Now, it’s just a hole, but you can put a flower in it if you want. Or, another mini-toggle for coil-tap, maybe.Stratocaster comfort with Les Paul punch. Oh yes. I call it the Stratopaulster. There are some dings and spots where the nitro has been touched up, but there are no defects affecting the tone. This guitar comes with a Coffin Case that still has a bit of sticky residue on the outside of the lid, where a previous owner no doubt covered it with adhesive tokens of his musical prowess. I have just ignored it, but it’s nothing that a little time and some of Goo-Gone can’t fix, if it bugs you. Or, put more stickers on the lid! (I bought the case with a different used guitar, but I’m not really Goth enough for it, so I’m selling it with this guitar.)If you’re a Fender or Gibson purist, this ax is not for you. But if you enjoy the experience of tweaking and modding guitars, you’ll have some fun with this one, for a lot less than those purists pay. Or, you could just play the hell out of it all night, and not have a sore neck in the morning.
