PROPHET ROYAL ROBERTSON African-Am.Outsider Drawing of "Day Sun Exploded" 1990s

Description: This drawing is from the early 90s ( He died of a heart attack on July 5th, 1997) and is on poster board and measures 22" x 28" It is a double single sided drawing. The 'front' shows an Apocalyptic Vison of Royal's that he labels The Year That the Sun Exploded. Fireballs streak across the sky, as a powerful flood wipes out the landscape and homes. According to Royal, this will be the doomed future of the earth due to God punishing all of Royal's enemies. The border has a Red/White jazzy strip on either side and is also black painted and sprinkled with glitter. The verso side is shown in images 8 & 9 and continues with some of Royal's warnings and testimonials. drawing media is permanent SHARPIE pen and colored magic marker. Very stable. I have collected drawings from Royal since the mid 1980s and all, including drawings from the 70s, The are very stable and the color is vivid to good. His works are in numerous private and public collections including the SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART, the Mississippi Museum of Art, The American visionary Art Museum and the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, among others. Prophet Royal Robertson (1931-1997) was a sugar cane mill worker and later became a sign painter. He and his wife Adell raised 11 children but when Adell left Royal and took the kids with her, He became unstable and had apocalyptic vision/dreams. He began to draw and eventually covered every inch of his Baldwin, Louisiana home and yard. paintings and drawings.
