Description: Psychic Episodes of Great Zimbabwe: A True Narrativeby Harold Clarkson-Fletcher and Richard E. Pugh Looks at the ruins of Mashonaland, their structure and history, through the aid of spiritual guides. The author describes a set of séances held in the ruins by the author, during which he claims to have contacted the spirits of the original. builders and other descendants. Written with dramatic and romantic flair and "under the impetus of psychic influence," the author relates the rise and decline of the civilisation in much the same vein as Haggard‘s classic Elissa and the Doom of Zimbabwe (1900). Clarkson-Żletcher‘s tale concludes that the Phoenicians built Great Zimbabwe to control the gold trade. But it was a sad, lonely colonial existence and the Phoenicians committed mass suicide rather than integrate with the local tribes. Not surprisingly, this book has been ignored and has failed to gain mainstream and even fringe attention, although it has been cited by Richard Ganter as factual proof that the Phoenicians once lived in southern Africa.
