Our regular price for this poster is $189 Here we are offering a rarely seen silk-screened Cuban political poster -- this one released in Havana to show Cuba's solidarity with PUERTO RICO. The poster is titled JORNADA DE SOLIDARIDAD CON PUERTO RICO -- Day of Solidarity with Puerto Rico. This scarce 12 by 17-inch handmade poster was distributed in 2005 by the Havana-based Organization of Solidarity of the People of Asia, Africa & Latin America (OSPAAAL) as part of a portfolio of 10 silkscreens. Over six decades, OSPAAAL promoted Cuba's solidarity with countries and revolutionary movements in the Third World. OSPAAAL closed its doors in Havana in June 2019, making many of its famed posters more difficult to find. The PUERTO RICO solidarity poster in this listing is a mini 2005 silk-screened version of an offset poster designed in 1974 by OSPAAAL. The poster shows a fallen United States flag -- an indication of the Cuban government's contention that people of Puerto Rico have been ill served by the U.S. government in its Commonweath status. This poster was designed by FELIX BELTRAN, one of the most prominent designers of Cuban political posters in the 1960s and 1970s. Beltran studied graphic art in New York City in the late 1950s and early 1960s and died in Mexico City, where he had lived for many years, in 2022. His work was celebrated in an exhibition in Madrid in early 2023. Overall condition of the poster is good. As with many Cuban posters, some imperfections are possible.
