The original pulps did not cover feature the novel at all so art by Frank Frazetta and Reed Crandall is used to illustrate the front and back covers. The volume also includes 7 pages of letters between Edgar Rice Burroughs and an editor at ALL-STORY magazine discussing the novel and some revisions they suggested he make (in ERB's original draft everyone on Mars died and John Carter returned to Earth).
